Less than seven months ago, a small Spanish bungalow within strolling distance of downtown Los Gatos sat quietly aging, a nondescript dwelling suitable only for rent. Fruit-basket wallpaper decorating its humdrum kitchen was the least of its problems; rooms in the 1,400-square-foot space were cramped, while water and termite damage lurked
beneath the stucco siding. Curb appeal and outdoor privacy were hampered because the front door opened upon bustling University Avenue.
Today, the 90-year-old house on the corner of Towne Terrace is the gorgeous new kid on the block.
Made over literally from the ground up, the 2010 Sunset Dream Remodel — which opens Friday for public toursc – convenient and stylish that the publication and its building partner, San Jose’s De Mattei Construction, could imagine. But a carte blanche project this was not.
